Same Labour, Same Ideas

Following their defeat in May's general election and the subsequent resignation of their leader, you would think that now would be the perfect time for the candidates for the Labour leadership to take stock of the situation, find out what went wrong and to reinvigorate the policies of a failing party.  Or maybe not...


Yesterday, Ed Miliband gave a speech outlining his beliefs and launching the next stage of his campaign to be the next Leader of the Labour Party.  Below is the word-cloud of said speech:

The message that Mr. Miliband appears to be giving is clear (and somewhat deluded): 'People want Labour and the State".  It would appear that the events of the last two months have completely passed him by; the people have made it abundantly clear that they do not want Labour.  You could also take the Conservative victory to mean that the people agree with the Conservative idea of rolling back the state too.

Be that as it may, there is a slightly more worrying observation from the word cloud.

Take a look at the two highlighted words in the bottom left-hand corner: cuts and deficit.  It is worrying that when the UK economy is in such a precarious state, the man who is staking his claim to want to lead it appears loathe to accept that there is a deficit and appears to be of the belief that cuts are not necessary.

Admirable defence of policy, or a foolhardy act of clinging to the sinking ship?  Only time will tell.
