A lifelong supporter of the Conservative Party, James has been heavily involved in both local and national elections, taking a particular interest in strategy, policy and media management.
James is a passionate believer in Conservative politics and would describe himself as having middle-Right beliefs, heavily influenced by the ideologies of both Margaret Thatcher and John Major. Whilst not complying to the traditional Conservative "Eurosceptic" approach, James prefers to describe himself as a "Euro-Pragmatist"; taking a constructive view of the UK's role in the European Union.
James particularly enjoys debating politics, particularly with those who share different viewpoints to his and believes that his experience in public-speaking and debating competitions as well as an excellent memory for statistics makes him a formidable opponent.
Of his interest in politics, James says:
"From an early age I have always taken a great interest in the goings on in the world around me; I remember fondly at age 8, trying to persuade my mother that watching the news wasn't an excuse to stay up past 9pm, but actually my reason for wanting to.
"I have always found that debating is something that comes naturally to me and is something that I particularly enjoy doing. I particularly enjoy researching my subject matter and then finding and picking apart the holes in my opponent's argument. It was this passion which led me to consider a career in Law and that led me towards politics.
"I have been very privileged to meet some excellent people who have nurtured my interest in politics and who have helped me to further myself in this area. It was through these people that I was able to be a member of Chloe Smith MP's team in Norwich North for the 2010 General Election, in which we successfully defended the seat despite a concerted challenge from the Labour Party."
Discussing Politics
In his spare time James enjoys walking, cycling, reading and amateur photography; particularly enjoing exploring the varying landscapes in and around Berlin. James also enjoys meeting new people and learning about different cultures:
"I find it a great privilege to live in a country as diverse as the UK. It is particularly hard to define a UK citizen as we are, in reality, actually a mix of people who represent a wide spectrum of different cultures and beliefs. It is these people, and the distinct cultures that they bring with them and share with us, who make the UK the wonderfully diverse nation that it is today.
"I cannot deny that the ability to get to know and to interact with such varied communities has played a large part in my development and upbringing, and has helped me to maintain an open mind when it comes to my beliefs and my opinions.
"I hope that this comes across in my posts and articles on this site. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy reading the content here and look forward to debating my opinions with you."
